Course Name: Embroidery

Objective: To train the rural women in most fascinating art of decorative items and design oriented products to enable them capture lucrative markets of both national and international, with major thrust on designs and innovation.

Syllabus:

Module I

Introduction
Overview of embroidery, machines, types of fabrics, needles, embroidery rings and their uses, measurements, hand embroidery and machine embroidery, fabrics and colour combinations, kinds of carbons and tracing papers, tracing of embroidery designs, kinds of stitches for embroidery.

Module II

Accessories
Kinds of embroidery articles – handkerchiefs, placemats, cushion covers, T.V. covers, bedspreads, accessories box, coasters, yokes, dupattas, etc.

Module III

Kinds of Stitches
Hand Embroidery: shadow work, appliqué work, mirror work, kashimiri stitch, fly stitch, cross-stitch, etc.
Machine Embroidery: Eyelet work, lace work, motif work, scallops, appliqué work, cut work, satin, long and short stitch, etc.

Precautions to be taken
Quality of fabrics, threads and colours; precautions to be taken for proper maintenance of embroidery articles.
